Young and Rooney help sink Spurs.

Manchester United pair earn them a fine win at Tottenham

Wayne Rooney got the opening goal of the match for Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur 1-3 Manchester United

A Wayne Rooney header and two fine strikes from Ashley Young earned Manchester United a clinical win at Tottenham.
Rooney nodded in from a corner by Young to break the deadlock right at the end of a first half that Tottenham had been largely in control of.
Tottenham continued to dominate possession after the break but Young made it 2-0 when he volleyed in a high ball after a good run by Nani and then placed a long-range effort past Brad Friedel.
Spurs substitute Jermain Defoe pulled one back with a right-foot shot but it was too late in the match to threaten the outcome.
